Full Moon in Capricorn: Rose Moon/Lovers’ Moon

Full Moons take place in the sign opposite to the season we’re in. For example, with the Sun in Cancer, the Full Moon takes place at 12:53 am in Capricorn on June 28th, 2018 because this is the spot where her light shines the brightest. While the Sun & Moon are viewed as consorts, ironically, the Moon cannot be seen when she’s conjunct the Sun. His light obliterates her from notice completely. She glows full & complete when standing alone, opposite her consort, so each of them can be seen in their peak glory.

While outwardly, those of us in the Northern Hemisphere experience the balmy Cancer season along with the Sun, the Moon is in the wintry sign of stoic Capricorn. Full Moons are ultimately about balance, moderation, and temperance. They prompt us to examine whatever signs are on the Sun/Moon axis, and likewise, those houses in your chart. The unique signature of this Full Moon is its conjunction with Saturn, underlining the Capricorn emphasis. Numerically, the degrees and minutes of the Full Moon (6º28’) parallel the date it takes place in much of the world (6/28).

At First Glance

The Full Moon conjunct Saturn in Capricorn is like a drama student being dragged to a business meeting with her boss, a colorful, distracting presence amongst dark suits and strategic plans. She’s not particularly comfortable in Capricorn, and doesn’t expect to share commonalities with anyone in the building.

Healthy Expression

A healthy Moon in Capricorn has integrated the energy, figured out how to use strategic planning, marketing techniques, networking tools, or a balanced budget to help her pursue the creative dreams that bring her emotional satisfaction. She recognizes the value of reliability and dedicated hard work, and she’s seen beyond the dark suits to the people underneath them – some who foster secret, surprising dreams of their own, or links to the entertainment world in ways she never suspected.

Capricornian ambition can drive us to take at least one small step towards our goals every day, or every week – each of us at our own pace, provided it’s a regularly repeated pattern. Capricorns play the long game, and this is where dogged persistence often pays off. Capricorn can look to Cancer, the opposite sign, for the emotional support needed to sustain them in their quest, and the reminder that taking breaks can actually help them have more breakthroughs.

Europeans called this the Rose Moon, while Algonquin tribes and many others called it the Strawberry Moon because it is the month for strawberry picking. It is also known as the Lovers’ Moon since June is associated with weddings. Half the year has passed, so this is a time to celebrate what you’ve accomplished and take stock in what still needs to be done. Making a lovers’ wish on this moon and charging gemstones such as rose quartz to be carried for a specific purpose are both helpful activities.
